Setting video input priorities
MythTV and myPVR have the concept of Input Priorities. This allows the scheduler to record programs automatically from the most appropriate video input.
The ordering of these inputs is a matter of personal preference based on the quality of your video sources. For example if your analogue receptions is poor you might want to record from Sky rather than use your FTA aerial. On the other hand if you have good FTA analogue reception you might want to use that and keep the Sky TV input available.
| Video Input | OpenMedia Recommended | Higher Priority for Sky |
|---|---|---|
| Tuner 1 (/dev/video0) | 2 | 2 |
| Tuner 2 (/dev/video1) | 3 | 3 |
| Sky TV | 1 | 4 |
| DTH | 5 | 5 |
Important Notes
- The “DTH” video input is a new input for “Direct to Home” satellite based Digital TV services.
- If your unit only has a single tuner then you won’t see Tuner 2.
- If your SkyTV input is mapped to Composite under /dev/video1 rather than /dev/video0 you should use a value of 2 for Tuner 2 and 3 for Tuner 1.
- We map the DTH input to the highest value as it will always provide the best quality video capture.
- You can check which input is being used for a particular recording via the Upcoming Recordings screen
Main Menu -> Manage Recordings -> Upcoming Recordings
Step 1 Start the Set-up Tool
First make sure that you have no pending recordings, and then exit the main myPVR gui so that the myPVR Welcome page is displayed. You can then activate the set-up tool by pressing Alt + S on the keyboard, which should show the menus in the screenshot to the right.Step 2 Select the Video Input
In order to check the priority of your video inputs you need to select the following entry from the initial set-up tool menu
- 4 Input Connections
You should then get a screen similar to the image on the right, from which you can select the required input using Up/Down on your remote control.
Do not assign any additional video inputs without first talking to OpenMedia Support.
Step 3 Set the Priority for the Video Input.
Using the remote control select the field “Input Priority” using Up/Down and then set the required priority level using Left/Right.
When finished, select Finished and click OK on the remote control.
Perform this step for all of the assigned video inputs.
Do not change any of the other fields in this screen as this will affect the available features of your unit.
Step 4 Exit Set-up Tool and Restart myPVR
When you have finished return to the main menu via the Back button on your remote, and then press Back again to exit the Set-up tool.
In order for myPVR to correctly prioritise recordings based on your new settings it will need a full reboot. This can be performed by selecting
Main Menu -> myPVR -> Reboot
