Setup SkyTV Support

Backup Database

First perform a backup of the main MythTV environment using the Knoppmyth backup menu option. The backup will take a couple of minutes, and a beep will sound as it starts and finishes.

Go to the main myPVR menu by pressing ether

  • the green button on the remote control, or
  • Ctrl+Alt+Enter on the keyboard.

Then select the following menu path

  • MyPVR ->
    • Advanced ->
      • KnoppMyth ->
        • Backup

Upgrade Existing Packages

Now open a shell by typing “Alt+X” and then type the following to make sure your packages are uptodate. If prompted to accept updates press “Y” and enter.

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get -y dist-upgrade

Install SkyTV Support Packages

Then install the base for SkyTV support, and the additional components to support the IRBlaster.

sudo apt-get install mypvr-base-skynz mypvr-irblaster-skynz

This will pull in the following packages

mypvr-base-skynz
mypvr-epg-skynz
mypvr-icons-sky-nz
mypvr-irblaster-skynz
mypvr-setup-skynz

When prompted to replace an existing file press “Y”

You will also be prompted to select your Sky Settop box. Most people have Pace units. If you are unsure please contact OpenMedia Support.

You may get a warning about some unmapped channel IDs. Don’t worry as these aren’t currently used, but are present in the EPG data stream.

Confirm setup of Sky Channels

Press the Guide key on your remote to check the new channel map and EPG data has loaded. Then enter LiveTV to check your channels are loading correctly. In order for myPVR to change channels on your Sky Set Top box you will need an IRBlaster unit which can be fixed to the front of your sky box. If you wish to remove some SkyTV channels from the EPG please refer to our SkyTV Configuration guide.

Enable Auto Loading of EPG data

This should be enabled on your system, but to make sure please check the following screen

Go to the main myPVR menu by pressing ether
TV Settings

  • the green button on the remote control, or
  • Ctrl+Alt+Enter on the keyboard.

Then select the following menu path

  • Utilities/Setup ->
    • Setup ->
      • General ->
        • Next ->

Keep pressing next until screen title is Mythfilldatabase.

Then make sure the fields from top to bottom are as follows

Press Finish to save any changes

Connecting your SkyBox

Please refer to the diagrams on Video Capture. You need to connect the composite video and stereo audio from your Sky Box to the Video 1 inputs. This will be below the TV Aerial input. We recommend initially using the composite connection for testing.

If you have an S-Video cable also connect this one, and use our SkyTV Configuration Menu to change the input over.
